Three down, two hundred and fifty two to go. 

It’s never a chore to watch Back to the Future.  It’s one of my all time favorite films.  That film itself is probably in my top 10.  The trilogy is easily in my top 5 trilogies.  I do prefer the 2nd film over the first.  I’m a sucker for hoverboards and flying deloreans. 

Speaking of the Delorean – want one.  Always have done.  When I win the lottery, that’ll be on the purchase list, I’ll retrofit it so its BTTF2 styled with a Mr Fusion on top too.  Yes.  I am a Geek.

Can’t wait for BTTF to hit blu ray.  It was also interesting to do some reading up on the whole Jigawatt/Gigawatt issue.  It would seem that it is actually a gigawatt but pronounced jigawatt (and spelt jigawatt in the script).  There was some miscommunication in pronounciation when they were talking to a scientist or something. 

I also found it interesting to note that Crispin  Glover only appears in the first film.  He turned down a part in BTTF2 (part of why he was killed).  His character does make a cameo appearance in BTTF2 and BTTF3 although he is played by a different actor -Jeffrey Weissman.

I know there are a fair few continuity errors on moviemistakes.com – I can’t help but love the way the three films fit together.  All of the chase scenes, all of the in jokes.  Love it. 

Film writing at it’s best.

Movie number 2/250 watched. 

I decided to go with Rocky.  Initially I was going to watch the Seven Samurai but noticed that it had a running time of over three hours – think I’d best save that one for a weekend or at least a night when I’m not having to get up. 

I really enjoyed Rocky.  It’s one of those feelgood films, even though he doesn’t win the match, he goes the distance. 

It confused me when I was younger.  Generally speaking films always end on a high – the hero always wins the fight, the goodies always win, the baddies lose.  Rocky goes against that and it’s quite refreshing.  I know Rocky 2 picks up immediately after the first film and he ends up winning against Creed in the rematch but meh – you know what I’m saying. 

It was interesting to see the same sort of thing with Rocky Balboa – the new film that Stallone brought out a few years ago.  Everyone expected him to win and he ended up losing that fight, although I think there were two endings shot and they based their decision on test audience reaction. 

Looking through the list I’m a bit gutted that Ghostbusters didn’t make it in there, I’m glad BTTF is though, it’s also interesting to see that Superman 1/2 didn’t make it in there. 

I need to come up with some sort of strategy for watching – Wonderful life and Christmas Story I want to watch in the run up to Christmas this year.  I could do with grouping things together and figuring out what I’m going to do. 

Right, off to bed methinks, earlyish night considering it was past midnight last night.

What better way to kick off the IMDB challenge but with the Matrix.  Probably the film that took DVD mainstream, I remember my dad using the Lobby scene (you know the one) to showcase the awesomeness that was DVD and our sound system. 

The Blu Ray transfer is superb, it looks like a completely different film.  Extremely sharp and I didn’t notice any grain at any point in the picture.  You pick up on a lot of the subtle stuff, I love the detail shown in faces. 

Crystal clear, the sound was superb.  Glad I kicked off with this one.

I’m even more glad that the sequel and the third film from the series (otherwise known as the one that doesn’t really exist) aren’t in my list.  I’m in no hurry to watch them again. 

Now watching Rocky.

Thanks to http://nentecular.wordpress.com/ I have an interesting movie challenge to watch all 250 of the top 250 IMDB movies by the end of the year.  I’ve seen around 64 of them, that doesn’t matter though, the challenge is to watch all 250 this year.  I’m already 6 days behind everyone!  Good thing Sue is on nights for the next few days
