Food Diary – 30/06/09

Done pretty well today, even got to try out some granola with a yoghurt after tea.  Mmmmm granola is yummy.  Not something I would have eaten 12 months ago either but now I’d quite happily eat it.  Oats are good for you, see.  Some granola has lots and lots of sugar (which is bad).  I bought some from the farm shop and although it doesn’t have any nutritional info on it (boo) it is unsweetened, so it can’t be any worse than the quaker stuff at 3 points per 45g.

Managed to save enough points today along with my exercise points to make a fairly big dent in the defecit.  Jumped on the scales this morning and I was unchanged from last week – if it stays like that this week I’ll be happy.

So, according to the WW site, I’ve not saved any points today.  I know I haven’t used 22.  So I’ve saved 22 points.  This isn’t something I’m going to repeat in a hurry but after such a bad couple of days I thought it was worth trying in order to get back on track for this week.

Still, should hopefully mean that I’m on track to stay the same weight in the very least – we’ll see what Thursday brings.

Before that, we have several days at work :)

Experiment

I’ve decided to try something.

The Weightwatchers for men thing I did a few years back didn’t count points on a daily basis – it counted them weekly.  You had so many points for the week, you used them how you wanted and it was only at the end of the week that it actually mattered.

The regular WW plan does things differently, you get a certain amount of points per day, you can only carry 4 to your bank, all others (unless they are exercise points) are discarded.  What I don’t understand is why it works one way (you can eat say 100 points in a day and they all matter) but it doesn’t work the other way (you can only save 4 points).  I realise that there is a health implication, you need a certain number of calories per day, your 5-a-day count, water count, things like that.  Still – if I have a really, really bad day – why can’t I get up really late on a Sunday, just have a large sunday dinner with tonnes of veggies (weighing in at about 9 points total) and save 24 points?

Healthy? – No

Something you should do on a regular basis? – No

Something that might help me recover some lost points after yesterdays (and Fridays, and Thursdays) overindulgence? – Perhaps….

I’m not hungry at the moment, I took in that much food yesterday that I could probably make it through today on yesterdays calories.  That would be silly though, I need to eat something.  We’re having roast dinner in a few hours.

Rather than writing this week off, I’m going to have my roast dinner today and see what happens.  I’m going to save 4 points tomorrow, 4 points on Tuesday and 4 points on Wednesday.  I’ll also be doing a minimum of 3 points activuty a day, meaning I should have about 25 points to chalk off against my overindulgence.  Take the 24 points I won’t be using today and we should be somewhere around breaking even.

Even if it doesn’t work, it’ll be interesting to see what kind of an impact it has, I know I certainly haven’t had a weekend like this one for many, many months.  I can’t believe that I used to eat like that EVERY day – that’s insane, no wonder I was as big as I was.

I should have had a double burger and some corn at nandos last night, that extra 6 points might have stopped the pic and mix and popcorn from making it to my list.  No doubt I’ve overpointed anyway – but as I’ve said before, always better to be over than under.

Today was a nightmare, trip to the seaside (with donuts), trip to nandos (with large chips), trip to the cinema (popcorn and pic and mix AND a frozen fanta slush thing).  Bad, bad BAAAAD!

It was almost as bad as going for a curry.  I didn’t eat all of the popcorn (late night movie popcorn sucks after a few handfuls – stale popcorn ftl)

Anyway – I have a plan.  It might work, it might not, it’ll be fun trying though.

3lb loss this week.  Very happy with that.  Hopefully next week we’ll see a below 20st number (I saw 19st 13lb on Tuesday)

We visited a customer’s site today which meant I had a hotel breakfast.  Managed to take a healthy choice at lunchtime and opt for a jacket potato.  Overall for the week I’m over but we’ll see what effect that has on the overall loss for the week.  I’m still confident of a loss, I just think its probably unlikely that we’ll be under the 20st mark, still theres a chance.

Well, we’ll have to see what happens on Thursday morning (If I’m even home!) – had to come away on a work business trip at short notice and we had a couple of pints in the pub next to the hotel tonight so I’m back to being about 7 points over. Still think there’ll be a loss – just don’t think it’ll be as good as the 19st 13lb I saw on the scales this morning.  It will come! It really will :p
