Food Diary – Saturday 30th January 2010

January 30th, 2010 Matt No comments

Ate quite a lot today – for the most part it was relatively healthy.  Enjoyed spending the best part of 4-5 hours wandering round the trafford centre (I’ve marked it down as 60 minutes gentle walking, I figure I got at least that, there was an awful lot of walking), had a Nandos for lunch where I opted for garlic bread rather than my usual side of sweetcorn without thinking about the point implications (eek) and only had a single burger rather than a double.

Tea was going to be a more simple affair concerning soup and bread, we weren’t hungry though and we had to babysit for my nephew, we got hungrier later on and decided on Chinese (healthier than pizza we figured).  By the time we’d finished we might have been better off having pizza.  It was rather tasty though :D

Going to have a very low points day tomorrow to compensate – especially with me not going to the gym for the first time on a Sunday in ages, I’ve got quite a lot to get through.

Food & Activity Diary – Friday 29th January 2010

January 29th, 2010 Matt No comments

First of all, before we get started I wanted to share something.  I think I’ve broken my addiction to food; or at least severed the connection that my brain had between boredom and eating.  Before I got myself back on track I’d gotten into old habits, 2/3 bags of crisps and some chocolate every night.  I wasn’t putting on weight but I wasn’t losing it either.

Today whilst at work I had around 600 calories total, that included a hot chocolate I had first thing and some oat milk I tried later on (thanks Pete).  I knew I was having a dominos tonight (plans changed and I ended up getting fish and chips instead) so I saved myself so I’d be around level with a few points to bank.  It was Pete’s birthday today, he brought in boatloads of treats from Sainsburys including haribo, maltesers, assorted bakery goods – I didn’t have any of it.  I’m really proud of myself.  Its not like I really had to stop myself either, I wasn’t pining for it, I didn’t feel that I was depriving myself.  I knew that I didn’t need to eat any of the stuff that was on offer – I wasn’t hungry, I was satisfied and by not having it I was actually doing myself some good.

I managed to get to the gym tonight after all.  Not sure if I’ll be going on Sunday yet – it’ll mean me having the car all day and having to take Sue to work/pick her up.  I’ve got a lot to get through on Sunday so I’m not sure yet.  I’ll decide either sometime tomorrow night or Sunday morning.

I also wanted to thank everyone who has donated to Make a Wish on my behalf – especially the people from work who donated today after I sent my e-mail around; thanks guys, it means a lot to me.

I ended up having a fairy cake today – my nephew decorated it and I took a photo of me eating it and sent it through, I love my nephews, they’re ace.  I can’t wait to see Jake tomorrow :D

I might not be getting all that much faster but I think the cross trainer is definately getting easier – a few more weeks and I might have to up the level a notch or two.

I really struggled on the bike around the halfway mark, my legs just didn’t want to know.  It wasn’t fab.

Decided on a flat walk tonight, after the problems on the bike.  I have no idea why it doesn’t say I’ve walked a mile, 15 minutes at 4mph is an hour.  Stoopid treadmill ;-)

Did my full resistance workout followed by a quick swim, steam and jacuzzi.

Weigh In & Weekly Summary – Wednesday 27th January 2010

January 27th, 2010 Matt No comments

Well, I’ve been on target, focused on the goal and very motivated the last week.  I’ve done everything properly.  Pointed EVERYTHING that passed my lips.  Generally not snacked on an evening – the oppertunities where I would snack, I’ve been out of the house at the gym, burning more calories (which is good).

I got on the scales on Sunday to have a look at how I was doing at a mid-point and I was quite happy with where I was.  I got on this morning and I’m VERY happy with what the numbers said.

Start Weight : 23st 3lb
Current Weight : 19st 8 lb
Change this week : – 6lb
Total Weight Loss : 03st 8lb
Time Taken : 56 weeks

So, a 6lb loss.  According to WeightWatchers thats not a healthy, steady weight loss pattern.  I agree – if I were to lose 6lb every week from now until when I finish that would be pretty bad.  I know that won’t happen (as much as I’d like it to).  I’m expecting a 2-3lb maximum loss next week, we’ll just have to see what happens between now and then.

On to the weekly summary:

As you can see I only went over my daily allowance once, and that was by half a point.  I had 35 points per day last week (due to putting on) and I ended up at the end of the week with 70 points unused.  Thats two more days worth of food.  Most of those are exercise points, a lot of them are food ones.  There were even more food points that went to waste from not using them; two out of the seven days I saved 9.5 points and 10.5 points – only 4 of these points are saved, the other 5.5/6.5 are discarded.

I’m really happy with the progress made this week – I’m now at the lowest weight I’ve been in an awful long time (it’s possible that I’ve never weighed this little all through my 20′s).  I’d like to thank everyone for the words of positive encouragement – it’s been really great and I’m going to carry on in the same spirit as I have done this week.

We’ve got just over 5 months until I take part in the Leeds 10k.  I chose my charity and set up the Just Giving page yesterday – you can donate here. You can also click on the widget to the right of the main body of the blog (which also shows you how much I’ve raised so far).   I chose the charity because there are some really poorly children out there, some of them who won’t beat the illness that they are fighting.  In those cases, all people can do is make them comfortable and give them the best weeks/months/years that they can.  If I can improve the quality of life for those kids, give them one last special day by raising money, then that’s what I’m going to do.

Thanks for reading!

Food & Activity Diary – Tuesday 26th January 2010

January 26th, 2010 Matt No comments

What a strange day I’ve had today.  I ended up with a fairly low point tea and we went straight to the gym, I didn’t realise until I got home but I’ve got 11.5 food points left.   I really should eat some of them but its nearly 10pm and I get weighed tomorrow; I’m not overly hungry so I think I’ll give it a miss.

I’ll be posting up my weekly summary tomorrow; suffice to say I’ve never saved this many points up over the course of a week before.  Including exercise and a maximum of 4 points per day I’ve saved 70 points up over the last 7 days.  That’s another two days worth of points.  Its just about a curry with trimmings ;-)

I managed to do the Cross trainer in less time than I usually do – even with my mother asking me how to use the one next to me.  It was warm in the gym tonight – I was sweating like crazy!

As soon as I stopped peddaling on the bike, the display went off and I captured an empty picture.  I was gutted.  And very annoyed.

The treadmill I did 15 minutes on a 2.0 incline at 4mph.  It felt good.

Followed by 15 minutes swimming.  It’s all good.  I get weighed in the morning.  I’ll post the results up first thing.  See you then!

Food & Activity Diary – Sunday 24th January 2010

January 24th, 2010 Matt No comments

Eaten quite a lot of bread today, lots of chicken, beans and a little bit of chocolate (first bit in a while).  Protein is yummy.

I managed a sneaky weigh in this morning since we’re about halfway through the week – if things stay as they are I’ll be very happy come Wednesday.  If I lose even more then great.  The gym workouts are definately helping and I’m still really enjoying them.  Back again on Tuesday I think.

I did the usual of 2km on the cross trainer.  The programme I chose today is the one I did last Sunday – I knocked a minute off the time.  That’s not bad.  Plenty of sweat so I know I was doing a good job.

Did 15 minutes on the bike, found that quite difficult but stuck with it.

Gave the treadmill a miss today and did most of the resistance work out followed by a swim.

Looking forward to the week ahead and for seeing positive results in Wednesday’s weigh in.
