Food & Activity Diary – Sunday 13th December 2009

December 13th, 2009 Matt No comments

Did a lot at the gym today – had to burn off that takeaway I had last night.  Things are getting easier than they were when I first started at the gym so the workouts are definately doing something good. I’m hoping to break through that barrier of 19st 8lb in the next few weeks (my lowest weight recorded in I don’t know how long) and then it’ll all be new territory :D

Food & Activity Diary – Friday 11th December 2009

December 11th, 2009 Matt No comments

I tried something a bit different with food today – since I was going to the gym straight after work and I had the car I decided to postpone my lunchtime sandwiches to mid afternoon and have a sausage and brown sauce sandwich from the sandwich shop in the morning.  It seemed to work out quite well and I had a very large bowl of cornflakes when I got home.

Managed to do most of a full gym routine, even did my resistance stuff and upped it in reps for a couple of machines.  Will probably feel that in the morning.

Didn’t push myself too hard with me not having been since Tuesday.  Had to take the treadmill down to 3.5mph after 10 minutes as my poor legs were shouting at me.  Did my 2km on the crosstrainer again, its becoming a habit that one.

Food & Activity Diary – Monday 7th December 2009

December 7th, 2009 Matt No comments

Weird day today.

I’ve been really hungry for most of the day.  I succummned to some pic n mix from WH Smiths too – I only bought a small cup, didn’t fill it properly and haven’t eaten half of them.  Overpointed on purpose.

The Gym was going great until they closed the pool due to a light fitting being loose, just as it was quieting down too – it was manic.  They closed the steam room and jacuzzi too so I didn’t get to relax as much as I normally do.  Going to have to go back tomorrow to compensate ;)

Food & Activity Diary – Sunday 6th December 2009

December 6th, 2009 Matt No comments

The gym went well this morning, had a little problem with the cross trainer where it felt like some ligament somewhere in my right leg was pulling but it eased off and completely disappeared after 5 minutes or so.  Other than that – did the usual, 20 mins on the cross trainer, 15 minutes on the bike, 22 minutes on the treadmill, stayed at 4mph for the whole time again – it was a little easier this time.  Even the tricep push seemed a little easier.

Swimming was okay, pool was a little crammed for the first 10 minutes or so but quietened down after a bit.  Steam room was working again too, yay!

Here’s the diary for today:

Food & Activity Diary – Tuesday 1st December 2009

December 1st, 2009 Matt No comments

Oooh today has been good.

I got home from the gym and really fancied a Mars bar – they’re only 5 points for the multipack ones and I thought I had 6 points left.  I did have 6 points left, but that was in addition to the other 5 I had left too.  Eek.

Overall this week I’ve saved 50 points from food/exercise.  That’s points I haven’t used.  I’m fairly hopeful of seeing a loss tomorrow morning, we’ll see how it goes :D

So food diary:

I didn’t manage a full 10 minutes on the bike – I had equipment problems.  I did however manage a full 20 minutes on the cross trainer and I went faster and therefore further than Sunday. 1.21km rather than 1.12km.

I did 22 minutes on the treadmill but managed to stick to 4mph for the duration.  It nearly killed me but I did it :D

IMG_0655(Click to enlarge)

I only managed to get on two weight machines – it was quite busy this evening.  I’m planning on doing more work with those tomorrow.  I also did the usual with swimming, steaming and jacuzzi-ing.

I’ll stick a quick post up in the morning in regards to the weigh in – I’ll pop a weekly summary up later on when I get chance :D

Food & Exercise Diary – Sunday 29th November 2009

November 29th, 2009 Matt No comments

Had a lovely chicken sandwich at lunchtime and a roast dinner for tea.  Meant I had some excess points that I had to use on a couple of treats – damn ;-)

Bought the Frijj milkshake this morning which I drank before lunch – less than 3% fat, still 5.5 points :( I hate the nutritional values done per 100ml when theres 500ml in the bottle.

And 22 minutes on the treadmill – I managed to stick to 4mph for 10 minutes!

IMG_0639(Click to enlarge)

Don’t pay any attention to the heart rate – I wasn’t holding the sensors and I don’t have a body-strap one.  No idea where it was getting a reading from.  About 5 minutes into the start of my workout I was buzzing, I love it – listening to music whilst exercising is just fantastic, I love the endorphin release :)

We’re getting closer and closer to weigh in day.  After having being to the gym 4 times in the last week (Sunday-Sunday) I’m expecting a loss.  Especially considering that I’ve started pointing properly again.

My Exercise Programme

November 29th, 2009 Matt No comments

I thought I’d take a little time to write about my exercise programme a little.

There are two sections to the main programme – a cardio vascular section and a resistance section.  After I’ve finished this programme I do some swimming, after that I go and chill out in the steam room and then jump in the jacuzzi.  I need just under two and a half hours including shower time to get through the full lot – so at the moment its taking a lot out of my day when I go.  Without the steam room jacuzzi we’d probably be looking at not much over 2 hours, take out the swimming and I could probably manage all the gym-based work in about 90 minutes allowing for breaks/waiting for machines.

So as I say – the first part is cardio.  I took a photo of my programme this morning but its a little blurry – its more for my benefit than yours to be honest though.

IMG_0641

What you can’t see on this first picture is the warm up which is supposed to be 5 mins on the Cross Trainer.  I did 20 minutes on the cross trainer today as I wanted some additional CV workout.  I did my 22 minutes on the treadmill which involves 2 minute sections where I raise the incline level by 1 point – I get up to level 5 then come back down to 0.  I got myself up to doing this at 4mph – if it was flat I could go at 4mph forever, as it is at the moment as soon as I get to level 3/4 on the incline I start to lose it.  I’m working on that :)

After this I go on the bike – I’ve started to vary it a bit though, crosstrainer first, then bike, then treadmill to give  my legs a rest between the two standup sessions.

The resistance programme looks more like this:

IMG_0640(click to enlarge)

This has me using a variety of machines on different weights.  I’ve increased a couple of them over what the instructor gave me as I found out after a few sessions that they weren’t quite heavy enough.  The only one that kills me is the tricep push.  That thing is horrible although its getting easier/hurting less afterwards every time I go.

I’m including photos of the machine readouts after I’ve done on each workout with my diaries – first one should be good to go later.

Food & Activity Diary – Friday 27th November 2009

November 27th, 2009 Matt No comments

I ate a load of what were purportedly pieces of chicken this afternoon.  Wanted some extra protein for the gym and Sue had bought some of them from the supermarket.  I won’t be buying them again.  I think I’ll stick to proper chicken breasts and a bit of nandos sauce in the afternoons for some extra protein in the afternoon.  Plus they’ll taste nicer and it’ll actually be chicken, chicken that has clucked and wandered around somewhere.  Not that fake chicken.

Went to the gym after work, it was dead – there was hardly anyone there, Friday evenings are definately gym nights.  Did the same as the other night, 10 minutes on the cross trainer to warm up, 22 minutes on the cross trainer – managed to do 7 minutes at 4mph going up to incline level 3, had to knock it down to 3.5mph then 3mph as I got a stitch in the middle of my back and had to slow it down.  Inclines level 4 and 5 are a killer.

After I’d been on the treadmill I was on the bike.  I decided that I’d start taking photos of the displays so I had a record of how many calories I’d done, how far I’d gone, how much work I’d put in, etc.  Sadly this was after I’d finished the Cross Training and the treadmill but I thought I’d grab a photo of the bike one anyway.

IMG_0633

(Click to enlarge) – Just noticed this shows an effort level of 2 – this was from the cooldown, it was at 5 for the exercise, will have to watch for that.

When we go back on Sunday I’ll get  a pic of all four machines, its ideal for me to keep tabs on my progress – I should be able to track a course of exercise that shows improvement week on week.

Fancied Fish and Chips once we’d finished, just about had enough points.  Still saved 7.5 from exercise.

Food & Activity Diary – Wednesday 25th November 2009

November 25th, 2009 Matt No comments

I started counting points again today.  To be honest it was much easier than I thought it was going to be, that’s probably due in part to me not being in the house on my own all evening left to my own snacking devices.  Also probably due to me being in the right frame of mind again now.  Hell, I stuck with the plan solidly for more than 6 months, getting back into the swing of things isn’t going to be all that hard is it?

The activity part is where I fall down.  I have no idea how to log my gym activity.  The Weight Watchers website has three level of intensities for workouts – low, medium and high along with definitions for each.  Those don’t match up with the points I get for walking/cycling.  It’s all come to around 7 points.  I think its probably closer to 15-20 points overall but I’m not bothered about underpointing.  That is unless by underpointing I’m actually doing myself in by not taking in enough calories for my body to use and it shutting down into starvation mode.  We’ll see what happens over the course of this week.

I’ve got a hankering for a Nandos, I think we could be heading out there before the end of the week, I’ve missed the spicy goodness.

Thank you very much for all of the positive comments on Facebook – it’s much appreciated and you’re all a big help.

A big thank you especially to Aisling, who dragged me to the gym this evening and gave me a lift home which was well out of her way – you’re fab.  Thankyou :)
